Favorite hobbies:

Digging holes in the back yard. Fetching sticks and balls, and getting other pooches to chase me. I am ALWAYS surprising people with how fast I can run! The thing I hear most at the park is “holy cow, does that dog have three legs?!” YEP! I do!

Tricks or funny things:

I can shake a paw like a pro. LOTS of people told them that it would never happen (on account of me missing my front leg), but it was a piece of cake. I can also fetch my leash when I want to go for a walk. I can close doors, and I’m learning how to crawl! Let’s not even talk about the basic tricks, like sit and stay and roll over.

If anyone can... Bean can

How Bean lost his leg?

We adopted Bean from the humane society in January, 2009. He still had all four legs, but his front left leg was very unusable. The nerve had been severed at his shoulder, so he just dragged it along and often tripped over it. It didn’t seem to bother him at all though; he was more concerned about the fact that the humane society staff wouldn’t let him run around! We were told that he had been hit by a car, but the staff wasn’t entirely sure about that story, as he was otherwise unharmed.

The humane society ended up giving us $500.00 towards Bean’s amputation, and we fundraised the rest. We ended up raising over $1,500.00! The surgery was very successful thanks to the wonderful veterinarian who performed the amputation, and Bean is SO much happier now that he doesn’t have his leg to trip over!

Before I lost my leg.

Why Bean should be Scrap?

Bean is intelligent and very easy to train. We are constantly amazed at how he loves to please and likes to learn.

With a very expressive face and with a unique ability to make people laugh, Bean was born to be a movie star. His repertoire of tricks just adds to his suitability for the role of Scrap.

Bean is also a great role-model, constantly teaching people (both old and young) that being three-legged is NOT a disability. He continuously shows that he is fully capable of doing anything and everything that a regular dog can do.

Bean has not “bounced back” from losing a leg; he just never let it knock him down.
